European Commission Scientific Committee opinion critical of E-cigarettes

The European Commission and its Scientific Committee on Health, Environmental and Emerging Risks (SCHEER) has assessed the risks of and published an opinion on electronic cigarettes. It finds a moderate weight of evidence of respiratory, cardiovascular, carcinogenic risk, with moderate evidence of harmful exposures from secondhand smoke and an increase in smoking uptake among youth. It finds weak evidence for the support of electronic cigarettes’ effectiveness in helping smokers to quit.
