Analysis showed that “factors leading to an increase in nicotine vaping are largely independent of those associated with the long-term consistent decline observed in cigarette smoking.”

Comment: This research indicates that e-cigarette use by adolescents is not responsible for declines in youth smoking. Different factors drive e-cigarette and cigarette use, so suggesting trends for one directly affects the other is incorrect, and efforts must focus on factors affecting both to prevent use by adolescents.
