Assessing the social influences, self-esteem

V, Kraguljac A. Assessing the social influences, self-esteem, and stress of high school students who vape. Yale J Biol Med. 2021; 94: 95-106

“Practicing prevention skills (e.g., refusing peer-offered e-cigarettes) and gaining knowledge in gameplay can lead to reinforced learning to understand health harms and improve self-efficacy to decline e-cigarettes. In this review, video game interventions increased knowledge and anti-vaping attitudes in the short term; however, an assessment of their effectiveness in preventing vaping initiation is needed. Additionally, youth’s almost ubiquitous ownership of cell phones makes text messaging a novel and accessible approach to delivering prevention interventions.

Research conducted on mobile phone apps and text messaging interventions found that they had a modest effect in modifying behavior, and findings from the 2 text messaging studies included in this review parallel these results.”
