“ECs [E-cigarettes] represent an emerging health concern and their long-term impacts have yet to be fully elucidated. Based on the current published literature, evidence substantiating the notion that ECs are safer than conventional cigarettes does not exist. This appears to be due to the presence of toxicants in e-liquid composition, their adverse effects in animal models, association with acute lung injury and cardiovascular disease, and ability to modulate different cell populations in the lung and blood towards pro-inflammatory phenotypes.”
