Stimulating human brain circuitry may be useful in addiction treatment, including smoking cessation, Joutsa J, Moussawi K, Siddiqi SH, et al. Brain lesions disrupting addiction map to a common human brain circuit. Nature Medicine. 13 June 2022. This brain mapping study of persons with brain lesions such as stroke supports the idea that has recently gained traction: that addiction lives not in one brain region or another, but rather in a circuit of regions linked by thread-like nerve fibers. The results may provide a clearer set of targets for addiction treatments that deliver electrical pulses to the brain, new techniques that have shown promise in helping people quit smoking. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-022-01834-y.pdf
