Making multisectoral committees work

Patay D, Schram A, Friel S. Making multisectoral committees work: Lessons from tobacco control in two Pacific small island developing states. World Medical and Health Policy. 19 October 2023.https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/wmh3.589

Multisectoral collaboration to create policy coherence in governing commercial determinants of health (CDoH) carries a high collaboration risk; therefore, high-level, cross-sectoral leadership is necessary to ensure the meaningful engagement of all relevant actors.

The net benefits of collective action to regulate CDoH must be showcased effectively, using current and context-specific data to ensure that all stakeholders understand the worth of engagement.

A shift from the narrow interpretation of neoliberal economic norms to the broader adoption of the idea of CDoH would support multisectoral engagement to tackle NCDs.
