Report of New ‘Commission’ and Justification for Electronic Cigarette Cessation

Warning: Report of New ‘Commission’ and Justification for Electronic Cigarette Cessation: More Counterfeit Legitimacy from PMI Funding

The International Commission to Reignite the Fight Against Smoking. Commission Report: Reignite the Fight Against Smoking. September 2021. https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/a-new-international-commission-of-experts-finds-the-global-fight-against-smoking-has-stalled-301384137.html

Listing commissioners from the US, UK, South Africa, India and Indonesia, and over 40 global experts, the report asserts cessation can be reignited if only e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products are used. This is the same old argument that Derek Yach, acknowledged in the Report, and others dredge up from their Foundation for a Smoke-Free World (FSFW), the Philip Morris International-funded organization funding other organizations, likely including this ‘Commission’ to promote nicotine products. How truthful can a ‘report’ be, if it is just another tobacco industry-funded argument for continued nicotine addiction? It is discouraging to see the repeat framing of experts, foundations, commissions and politicians fighting over the opportunities to benefit from alternative nicotine products. In the end, this report only provides the evidence and perspective that tobacco interests have adopted. Warning: Carefully examine any source of information pushing select evidence for the use of an addictive product.
