Chadi N, Schroeder R, Winther Jensen J, Levy S. Association Between Electronic Cigarette Use and Marijuana Use Among Adolescents and Young Adults: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis. JAMA Pediatrics. August 12, 2019
In twenty-one studies that met review inclusion criteria that involved over 128,000 participants, researchers found a three and one half times higher odds of marijuana use by youth who use electronic cigarettes (Adjusted odds ratio of 3.47).
Study conclusions state, “This meta-analysis found a significant increase in the odds of past or current and subsequent marijuana use in adolescents and young adults who used e-cigarettes. These findings highlight the importance of addressing the rapid increases in e-cigarette use among youths as a means to help limit marijuana use in this population.”
