New Studies on Cessation through Electronic Cigarettes

Two studies cited below with links show electronic cigarettes may help some smokers of conventional cigarettes quit, but the evidence is mixed. Clearly, if sustained electronic cigarette use is considered an acceptable cessation outcome, then the Kalkhoran study shows some benefit in the replacement of one kind of cigarette, the conventional one, for another (the electronic cigarette). The supposed benefit is in reducing harm, given we know the long–term beneficial effects of only using electronic cigarettes (which at this time, we do not). Given that more information about the harms of electronic cigarettes is now unfolding through research, the next step may be cessation for the electronic cigarette users not using conventional cigarettes who likely will find dissatisfaction with the harms of their new electronic addiction.
